THOMAS AND JACOB came from Alsace Lorraine (about 1784 [pencil correction 1774]
as per letter from Mrs. Martha DeWalt Uncpher) descendants of French Huguenots.Came to America and lived at Little Round Top, in Adams County, PA.

Thomas is supposed to have served with Gen Lafayett and fought in Rev War. Nothing is known of Jacob.

Thomas had family of nine children, one of which was PETER.
Peter married Carlotta (Charlotte or Sharlot or Sarlott) Mock (Mauck)Had family of 11 children. Two died in infancy.
Came to Delmont, Westmoreland Co, the latter part of the 17th century. According to Anna Bowersox of Hanover, PA, the spelling of Thomas could have been taken as Johannes....if handwriting wasn't too legible)00in those days no typewriters.

A. Thomas DeWalt married Henrietta Schmeider near Gettysburg [pencil about 1776 per ? Adams Co]

B. Peter DeWalt (son) married Carlotta or Sharlot Mauch (Mock). Could be Carlotta Susanna gravestone at Denmark Manor, PA
b. 17 Dec 1780
d 5 Nov 1826

Could be Peter Nicholas or Nicholas Peter as per Carrie DeWalt of Boulder, CO

Denmark Manor was so named as one of the tracts of land reserved by the Penns. At first there was a log school and a school master. After the church was built, services were held in the school in winter, as the church was not heated. Then, in cold weather, after school was dismissed, sheep were lead into the school house for the night.

Andrew Byerly was the first settler in this section on lands he took from the Indians. It was here that the historic battle of Bushy Run was fought and the
Indians defeated in 1763.

Dear Cousin,

Thru Mrs. J.A. Letshawl ? I am in receipt of your
very kind invitation to the De Walt family re-union
at your house Oct 6th which "We" Mrs. Hoey nad I very
much appreciate but u we must with regret decline.

I am too poor to be an aristocrat. I have always been
deeply interested in the Hoey-DeWalt family

I am so very blind that I have for a year and can just see the and cannot read what I wrote.

I quit business 8 years ago because of bad eyes and
cost of living has been much greater than my income
so that I must save every dollar

My trouble is cataracts on both eyes and now at
almost 78 and old age conditions exists so that no
benefit could be had from an operation.

I extend greetings to all the DeWalt who may be at
this reunion. Please give me a full acct of the

Also please inform my friends one of the 7 DeWalt Bros you described and ? as much information as ? about your branch of the DeWalts.

My mother had a family of 2 girls and 8 boys and I am
the last of the family. I will be 78 7th day of next

If at any time you and family are out in your car
wuld be glad to have you call to get acquainted. But
I must close. It is a long letter for a blind man to
write. I cannot read it but hope you can.

Your cousin, J. Louis Hoey
Henry DeWalt's son, William DeWalt was sent to
France about 1868 to try and locte property that
belonged to the DeWalt heirs, but owing to him not
being able to speak French he had no success.
