Correspondence: Letter from Elva Swan Beebe 10 June 1968
Correspondence to Eleanor Wills Love from Elva, daughter of Lucy Jane DeWalt and James Frederick Swan. She mentions story of Uncle Will (William Penn DeWalt) returning to Grandpa DeWalt's home meet his family and his daughter Wilma would not come out to meet him. He then searched for the family. Finally, 1st wife Eugenia Vaughn yelled she never wanted to come to his home, a divorce followed. Uncle Will went to Ontario where he apparently married again (he did go to Canada in about 1914). Later visited the DeWalt homestead in 1921 at the beginning of his glue manufacturing company.
Enclosed a clipping sent to her by Uncle Charley on a DeWalt Reunion in Cameron, Missouri. (must be about 1948) Mentions the Ward girls: Thelma, Fern, Mae and Ada daughter of Sula Okla DeWalt and Malcolm Ward. Gave addresses for these girls.
Correspondence: Letter from Elva Swan Beebe to Mary Wills 26 April 1992
Correspondence: Letter from Elva Swan Beebe to Mary Wills 26 April 1992
Note: One of the last letters written by Elva, as she died 31 August 1992. Elva talks about her Easter project of making cookies rather than divinity eggs-weather damp-not good for divinity but decided to make salads for her friends. She says fixing food not problem but delivering is. Mentions seeing HELEN HARRISON ELLIOTT both surprised over the changes of 70 years. Keeping a good attitude is most important with the adjustments. Makes comments about her life now. Noted KENNETH SWAN and wife REGENA HANSEN SWAN were invited to Wills reunion. Had heard from the WARD's shortly after VADA's death. MAE never did much in correspondence. FERN has physical disabilities unable to write. No news from HELEN HARRISON ELLIOTT, since Uncle RAYMOND HARRISON (her father) and RODNEY HARRISON (her brother) died. Mentions Uncle Will (WILLIAM PENN DEWALT) remember knowing WANDA (NOTE: according William P Dewalt family group the name was WYLMA-not certain what the name is so listed in these records as WYLMA WANDA DEWALT GILLESPIE) Elva describes her as a cute little girl that came with wife #1 (EUGENIA VAUGHN) to Grandpa DeWalt's farmhouse (see story in correspondence dated 10 June 1968)States Uncle Will was a likable guy. Uncle Charley (CHARLES DEWALT) a good entertainer and fun when away from home. At home fault finding grouch!! Story of Uncle Charles and his hatred for onions -how her 3 brother played a trick on him and Uncle Charley's reaction. Reflects on a trip, years later, when Elva, EDWIN, and DWIGHT went back to the farm without their parents, (Uncle Charley-bachelor- lived with his mother SUSAN MARY WILLIAMS DEWALT and WILLIAM THOMAS DEWALT). The kids were playing card games (upstairs near Charley's room) Elva grandparents believed cards a forbidden, sinful thing (also her mother LUCY JANE DEWALT SWAN). Kids were making more noise and brought in Uncle Charley yelling "Gol-danget, Ma, these kids are playing cards" that caused Grandma to bounce up the stairs and kids received lecture on the underhanded way they were going against her rules on the danger of cards. She was right on about sneaking. Elva could never understand the "evil" of cards. Apparently Uncle Charley used "Gol-darn" for years, Elva could not understand how he got away with something so close to swearing. He also used the term "taking off tups" used when a person tried to get even with another.

Correspondence: Letter from Elva Swan Beebe to Eleanor Wills Love mailed 21 December 1991
Daughter of Lucy Jane DeWalt and James Frederick Swan. Writes about being "scooge" due to lack of Christmas decor. She finds she no longer has the energy and with all her friends intake limitation (more than she has) reduces amount of sweets etc. Talks about the MALCOLM WARD and SULA OKLA DEWALT children: MAE WARD-not written even though she had visited Elva and her mother (LUCY JANE DEWALT SWAN) some years ago. FERN WARD, used to write but now unable though she did call Elva a couple of years ago. HELEN HARRISON ELLIOTT had not written since shortly before her father Uncle Raymond death (RAYMOND DENNIS HARRISON) A cousin on the Swan side lives in same town as Helen and mentioned Helen as having "nervous" problems. Elva makes a comment the Helen may have had many problems in that both she and brother Rodney were spoiled beyond anything one of the DeWalt clan could imagine! RODNEY HARRISON (son of Raymond) had stopped by once while visiting Helen and his dad. He mentioned that Helen husband was an oddity and that might be some of Helen's problems. Rodney and wife visited mentions 2 children is this letter(earlier letter indicated 3 children)-states Rodney died shortly after his visit. Has heard nothing from that family. Mentions her brother DWIGHT SWAN died from stroke in October. He had celebrated 90th birthday in August and lived a good life. VERNA HANSEN SWAN, his wife has many health issues. Daughter SHIRLEY SWAN MOE, live next door in Arcadia, California. Brother KENNETH SWAN and wife live in Spokane.

Correspondence: letter from Elva Swan Beebe 14 February 1981
Correspondence to Eleanor Wills Love from Elva Swan Beebe, daughter of Lucy Jane DeWalt and James Frederick Swan. Mentions "Uncle JOHN"-one of Grandma DeWalt's brother.

ALMA WALLACE ESTEP made a surprise visit to Elva her mother Lucy Jane DeWalt Swan in about 1949 Apparently Grandma DeWalt (SUSAN MARY WILLIAMS DEWALT) had schooled Alma who may have had border line mental retardation. (NOTE: ALMA WALLACE is daughter of MARTHA WILLIAMS sister to SUSAN MARY WILLIAMS-when Martha died, Susan Mary took Martha's 3 children and raised as her own.

Grandpa and Grandma DeWalt went to Pomeroy Washington to visit VERTIE DEWALT WILLS about the time WIlFORD WILLS was was two. States her family was living 1733 RANCH KEARNEY NEBRASKA (moved from Kansas City). Elva father was a poultry manager with change in personnel the company ran into financial difficulties, the the family moved into town. 1733 got it's name as it then was thought to be midway between Boston and San Francisco 1733 to Boston and 1733 to San Fransisco-later determined not to be the case.

Elva sent VADA WARD's Christmas letter and clipping (NOTE:filed under Vada Ward)she is an expert in "Elocution" states that UNCLE CHARLEY and AUNT HETTIE (NOTE: as did Vertie) Vada traveled with National Geographic doing writing and photography.

Speaks of the other MALCOLM WARD children (SULA OKLA DEWALT's first husband-he was not liked by the DeWalt's for his poor treatment of Sula and the children) Elva felt that GRANDMA DEWALT and UNCLE CHARLEY were too old to raise such young children. FERN felt the effects most as she was like Malcolm in looks and disposition. MAE was easy going FOLLOWED Fern in the rebellion. VADA was about a year old when taken to Grandma DeWalt. The girls became closer in later life. THELMA, the oldest, went to live with one Malcolm's aunt.

Talks about how hard SULA's life was and the time Sula went to Rochester for a mastoid operation 1919 went to Kearney to recuperate. Elva and brothers (especially the boys) were practical jokers and loved to tease Sula about her new romance. Sula worked at the TB Hospital and later roomed there. Sula and LUCY JANE DEWALT (sisters) were very close after Elva's father JAMES FREDERICK SWAN )was killed 1918. RODNEY HARRISON (ANNA LOCKWOOD DEWALT AND RAYMOND HARRISON's son) wife and 3 children come to visit Elva about a year before Rodney died. Mentions UNCLE RAYMOND was living in Moses Lake and other places in Washington State. Relates story how GRANDPA DEWALT heckled Grandma for "putting on the Aires" the son of the rich Harrisons etc. Apparently, she did. Elva felt Raymond was pretty down to earth and background not much different then theirs.

Expresses a desire for WALLY SWAN (KENNETH SWAN son-Elva's brother) to have her Swan genealogy information after she got it organized. (NOTE:Elva had no children)
Correspondence: Letter from Vada Ward Marcantonio Christmas 1980
Correspondence: Letter from Vada Ward Marcantonio Christmas 1980
Vada reflects on memories of cousin ELVA SWAN BEEBE tatted cards and birthday cake sent by Elba's mother Aunt LUCY (LUCY JANE DEWALT married JAMES FREDERICK SWAN) which arrive in crumbs (sent from Nebraska to Kansas)! Uncle Raymond died this year (married ANNA LOCKWOOD DEWALT), talks about how he fell from wheelchair and died of complication she say he probably fell out during a burst of laughter-was a fun person to be around. Talks about Grandma (SUSAN MARY WILLIAMS DEWALT) would tease Raymond and especially Anna. They were her favorite Aunt and Uncle Mentions her father's parents: ANDREW JACKSON WARD and AMANDA MELVINA GANUSS-really did not know them-died before she was born. Heard a story about how her father MALCOLM WARD would pick up rattle snakes by the tail and whip off their heads-especially outside the church on Sundays (That was Bible, Tenn).
