The brick home was completed in 1832 by Robert Newsom. The family lived in a long house until the brick one was finished. (Robert's brother, Conrad, moved into the log house when Robert moved out of it) The wooden part was added in 1909 by David Newsom, son of Robert. After David's death in 1912, his widow (Mary Ann Dunham Newsom) continued to live there until her death in 1927. Property then sold, house torn down, nothing remains but foundation. There is a house in Fulton built with the old brick. Robert and Conrad were sons of William and Margaret Speece Newsom.

Correspondence: Letter to Eleanor Wills Love from Ellen Mosley McNamee, Mrs Clarence Harland, in 1959.
She is the grand daughter of Mary Lewis Newsom Dunham, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Gwinn Newsom.

Gives a brief history of some of the Robert and Elizabeth Newsom daughters.

Virginia's husband was living in Callaway at the time of their marriage but left for another part of Missouri. Jessie went to the gold fields and Virginia came back and lived with her father until his (Robert's) death in 1855. Probably lived near sister Sally, as Virginia married her husband after Sally's death-marriage did not last. Virginia had to appeal to the state legislature to have her divorce and change her name back

Julia (her father Robert, considered her the brightest) educated her to be a teacher-must have been more than most girls received. Julia fell in love with James N. Langley, her father forbade the marriage. The romance died and some time later, Langley married her younger sister Ruth Ann.

James and Ruth moved to south west Missouri and in time, Julia followed. Julia and Langley had an affair and had two illegitimate children (daughters). Julia received some help from her brother Harvey Newsom with the first child but was practically disowned when the second child came. Ruth Ann (having a lot of small children) stayed with Langley but was always bitter. Julia kept her children and continued to teach and married Mr. Williams.

Rebeca and Sally at one time lived in Clinton County near Plattsburg, Missouri

    Sam Reynolds a cousin.

Aunt Susan married Hugh Tincher and lived in Callaway and is buried at Halton, Missouri

Newsom family graveyard: poor shape, graves unmarked and few people are left that know who's buried there.

Robert Newsom was murdered by his slave. He was a very ambitious and progressive man for his time . Wealthy at the time of his death. Came overland from Virginia with four white children and 4 slaves (little children) He was not stingy-my grandmother said his motto was "Win gold and wear it". None of his children were as prosperous as he.

Uncle Harvey had nice nest egg but denied himself of almost all comforts of life.

Refers to Annie Norman as a great source.
