    • Grave History:
Now I will explain about Erastus and Fanny's gravestones:
My still living aunts could never find the exact grave for Francis Margaret "Fanny" Abbott but knew approximately - there wasn't a head stone. They didn't know Erastus was buried in the same cemetery, different section. So my Aunt Verny ask me if we could make a gravestone for grandma Fanny out of cement. I had told her I would call the cemetery but I was pretty sure they wouldn't let us do that. When I called Wyuka Cemetery, they said we could not do that.

So, I called Aunt Verny back and suggested we contact relatives and see if they would be interested in giving money to put a gravestone on Fanny and Erastus graves. Wow, we got the money plus enough to put a vase on Fanny's gravestone. They were the cheapest stone we could get. So Fanny and Erastus Abbott both have gravestones on their grave sites. This is how we had the information put on the stones:

Erastus Ralph Abbott born approx. Mar 1, 1867 died mar 22, 1914. The reason for approx. Mar 1, 1867 is because his death certificates states he was born March 1, 1867 and obituary stated March 10, 1867.
The newspaper date of March 10, 1867 is most likely an error, as that newspaper, Nebraska City newspaper, dated Tuesday, March 24, 1914 does error a lot with names and dates. We went with March 1, 1867 because the informant on his death certificate was his oldest child, Adam Abbott. I have seen on some other genealogical researchers information that has Erastus born in 1868. However the 1870 Federal census listed him as age 3, census date was 30th day of July 1970. 1880 Federal Census listed him as age 13. However the 1900 Federal Census listed him born March 1868, age 32, the 1910 Federal Census listed him as 42 or 43 can't make out if 2 or 3 after the 4. Marriage records for Erastus R. Abbott, age 27 and Fanny M. Shoemaker, age 21. First child, Adam J. Abbott birth record (birth either November 1 or 10, 1895, listed Erastus age as 28.

Francis Margaret "Fanny" Abbott born Approx. Nov 5, 1872 died Aug 10, 1967. The reason for approx. Nov 5, 1872 is because at the time of her death no one really knew how old she was and there were several discrepancies of her birth year. We used 1872 from Federal census for the years of 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 all listed her age as consistent with her being born in the year 1872, Fanny's and Erastus Abbott's marriage record is consistent with her being born in 1872 as well as the birth record for their first child, Adam J. Abbott. Also Fanny is listed in a book called "Bellis Ancestors and Cousins" by researchers/ authors Tom Bellis and Genevieve Hoehn Bellis, copyright 1983. I, LuAnn (Abbott) Bixler, contacted someone with a copy of this book who looked up Fanny and said it list her birth as 1872. Both authors are deceased. The Church of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City has a
copy of this book but the copyright has not expired so
therefore they can not copy the book. I have also tried to contact the authors relatives but where unable to find them.

Erastus Ralph "E.R." Abbott and Francis Margaret "Fanny" (Shoemaker Abbott) are both buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska, a City owned cemetery and very well kept. They are buried in different sections due to Erastus died in 1914 and Fanny in 1967.

Erastus Ralph "E.R." Abbott is buried in Park 77, Lot 093, grave number 05. Park 77 , which is a narrow strip on the North side of the Park 8. Erastus is listed in cemetery records as E. R. Abbott. His stone has his full name on it and his grave is right next to the road.

Francis Margaret "Fanny" (Shoemaker) Abbott is buried in Park 5, Lot 023, grave number 03. Fanny's grave is on the Southwest corner of Park 5, about 3 rows in from the west side and approximately 5 or 6 graves in from the south.

When you find Fanny's stone; Gayle Ellen Brown-Fanny's and Erastus' granddaughter is beside Fanny in grave number 4, and behind Fanny in grave number 5 is Fanny and Erastus' youngest daughter, Mary Ann Abbott and next to Mary Ann in grave number 6 is Sewell Albert "Abby" (or Gabby as some of us knew him). Sewell Albert "Abby" Abbott is the son of Fanny and Erastus.
